Essential Health Tips for Your Wedding Day

Weddings are great motivators to get into shape. After all, you want to look your best on the most photographed day of your life! But looking great isn’t the only reason to focus on health in preparation for the big day. As a Los Angeles personal trainer who has worked with many brides, Lalo Fuentes, CSCS, can tell you that the preparations, wedding, and honeymoon are all physically strenuous – and you need to be fit to face them!

Here are some essential health tips every bride and groom need to follow in preparation for their big day and beyond!

Get a Personal Trainer

First things first – you need a personal trainer! There are so many reasons to invest (because yes – you need to make investments in your health) in a personal trainer, such as:

  • They’ll show you proper form – You can do a million different repetitions of an exercise, but if you’re not doing it with proper form, then you won’t get the maximum benefit.

  • They personalize a plan – A personal trainer will tailor an exercise and nutrition plan to help you reach your goals.

  • They provide encouragement and motivation – Your personal trainer is there to keep you honest and also to be your biggest supporter as you work toward your goals.

  • They help set realistic goals – Your health is incredibly important, which is why a crash diet where you lose 25 pounds in four weeks isn’t the way to go. Let a personal trainer help guide you by setting realistic goals on a realistic timeline.

Watch the Sugar

A lot of people stress eat and when planning an event as big as a wedding and it’s easy for stress eating to get out of control. Lalo Fuentes, CSCS, says, “Cutting out ice cream and pastries is a no-brainer, but diets can be full of hidden sugar, so know what to look out for.”

Make sure to reign in your consumption of simple carbohydrates such as white bread and white rice, because they break down into sugar very fast in your body. Also avoid soda, fruit juices, and highly processed, packaged foods that may seem healthy, such as granola bars. Read the nutrition information on every package and make the best choices you can.

Eat Food Dense in Nutrients

If you’re going to watch how many calories you eat in a day to help you reach or maintain a healthy weight, then you need to get the most out of what you’re eating. Los Angeles personal trainers suggest you maximize your nutrients per calorie by eating foods that provide the most bang for your calorie buck. Food such as salmon, leafy green vegetables such as spinach, sweet potatoes, blueberries, and quinoa are great examples of foods with relatively low calorie counts that are high in nutrients.

Remember, a healthy and happy bride and groom should be the goal for your wedding day. So, once the planning begins you need to make plans for your health right along with it. That way, your wedding day won’t just be the most memorable day of your life, but the healthiest too!
