Active Date Ideas

When you think of date night, you probably imagine a nice dinner, maybe a movie. That may sound relaxing, but it’s not precisely a healthy way to spend time with that someone special in your life – or even learn more about someone new. Los Angeles personal trainers may not be relationship experts, but they do know the importance of health and fitness. To help you stay on track with your health and wellness goals in the coming year, here are a few outside-of-the-box ideas for active dates you may want to add to your bag of date night tricks.

Volunteer

Having an active date can mean a lot of things, but the cornerstone of one is to do something that gets your body moving. A great way to spend time reconnecting with your partner or getting to know someone new is to volunteer together at a place that means something to you both. You can help at a local soup kitchen or humane society, build a Habitat for Humanity house, or even help your elderly neighbor clean up their yard. You can turn your date into an active one that helps to give a little back to your community too.

Dancing

Dinner and dancing is a more traditional date, but it’s still an active one! You don’t have to go out somewhere fancy or even go to a loud club. You can simply turn up the tunes at home and get your groove on, letting your hair down and having some fun in the process.

“Many people think that exercise has to be work,” says personal trainer Lalo Fuentes, CSCS, “but the truth of the matter is that you don’t have to go to the gym to work out. You can easily incorporate things you enjoy doing, like dancing, into your routine in order to stay active and healthy.”

Learn to Rock Climb

Some of the best activities you can do together involve learning something new. Find a class at your local indoor rock climbing facility and literally learn the ropes with your date. Rock climbing, according to Los Angeles personal trainers, is a great full-body workout that is wonderful to help build core strength and stability, so get climbing!

Cook a Healthy Meal Together

Working together in the kitchen can be the true test of a potential relationship because you can see how you work together to accomplish a shared goal. Choose healthy recipes and go shop together for the ingredients. Then spend the evening talking and cooking your way to a healthy, delicious meal and a great date (hopefully!). You may be surprised how much you can learn about someone in a kitchen!

Go for Bar Games

OK, so your Los Angeles personal trainer isn’t going to suggest going to a bar, but since it does seem to be a destination for many dates, try to sprinkle in a little health. Bar games can actually be great exercise, whether it’s billiards or even shooting darts. The only caveat would be to avoid the often high-calories food and drinks!

Dates don’t have to be sedentary. In fact, doing something active may help to take the pressure off and lead to one of the best dates you’ve ever had. You can thank your personal trainer later!
