Organizational Skills You Need to Succeed

Succeeding in anything requires organizational skills. When you decide to jump headfirst into your fitness career, there are a few things I’ve discovered through experience that you need to have – and they have nothing to do with your knowledge about health and fitness. Nope – if you want to run a successful fitness business, then you need to lay the groundwork with your organizational skills first. Here are a few skills I’ve found to be essential!

 

 

Office Work

When you’re first getting your fitness business off the ground, then you need to make sure your office skills are on point! You must commit to at least one hour per day of paper pushing to take care of paying your bills, website updates, or revising schedules. You should set this time aside on your schedule and give it the same priority you do your time with clients.

 

Dividing Your Days

In my book, Your Fitness Career, I go into detail about how to divide your days for success. I’ll just touch on it briefly here and say that dividing your tasks up by days has been one of my best organizational tools when it comes to my fitness career and my business. This technique allows you to stay on top of your responsibilities easily and it’s a simple system you can really use to drive your business.

 

Be Productive

You’re probably thinking “Of course I’m going to stay productive!” In my experience, that’s easier said than done. Becoming distracted is easy to do, but that’s why meeting deadlines and reaching goals in the time frame you’ve set for yourself is so important. Set time limits in which you want to accomplish certain things and try your best not to procrastinate. If a task can be done in that moment, then do it!

 

And speaking of distractions, you should make sure to get rid of as many outside distractions as you can. Unsubscribe from emails that don’t benefit you or your business. It’ll save you time, which in the end saves you money!

 

Get Board

Visual aids have been shown to help get things done. If you are confronted by a list of things you need to do each day, then you’re less likely to ignore them or push them to the backburner. Get a dry erase board to hang in your office and make a list of every single project you’re working on. Then, check off each task you need to complete the project as you go. This type of visual aid can be used for a variety of projects or plans for your fitness business and it’s a simple method that will deliver real results.

 

Owning a business is an adventure – and also an opportunity to grow. You don’t have to know all the tricks when you first start out about how to be successful, but you do need to be open to learning new things and re-evaluating how you do things in order to find success.
