3 Reasons to Start Your Own Fitness Blog

As you enter the fitness business, one of the best tools you have on your side is the internet as a platform for your own blog. But it’s not a fool-proof way to build your business. You must make sure you have the drive and the passion to write your blog and keep it up. If so, you can use it as a tool to get your name out there and carve a place for yourself on the World Wide Web. Here are three reasons I think you should start your own fitness blog.

Reason No. 1: It Makes Your Brand Human

This may sound kind of strange, but it’s true. A blog where you talk about things that are important to you and relevant to your fitness business makes you a person in the eyes of the reader. When people search online for personal trainers in their area, they’re looking to connect with someone. They want to know more about you, your fitness and training philosophies, and what kind of personality you have. Your blog must put a human face on the services you offer, so make sure you shine through in what you publish on your website.

Reason No. 2: It Creates Authority

When I first started in the fitness business, it wasn’t like I had television and magazine interviews lined up from the start. Chances are, you won’t either. Interviews with media help to build your authority, but if you’re not quite to that level yet, then you should build authority with your blog.

In my book, Your Fitness Career, I get into various ways you can build authority and promote yourself, but one of the easiest ways available to everyone from the start is a blog. Use this platform to educate people and bring your area of expertise to the forefront. Not only will this attract prospective clients, it will also attract the attention of the media and put you on the map. You may be surprised by just how many people read your blog and take the advice you offer.

Reason No. 3: Blogging Communicates with Potential Clients

The whole reason you have a website is to build your brand and get your name out there. You can use your blog to build a platform for things you want to accomplish with your fitness business – everything from group classes to retreats to products you have designed yourself. If you can gain a following through your website and blog, then you will reach people whose fitness philosophies and goals are in line with your own and those people can become loyal to your brand, become potential clients, and spread the word about just how awesome you are.

A blog is just one tool you can use to drive your personal fitness business forward. It’s the 21st century, after all, so you must use the tools offered to you in order to promote your own brand of personal training and fitness. Don’t be intimidated – just give a try and see where it can take you!
